12 miles from Mountain Peaks Inn
Surrounded by the Black Hills of South Dakota, carved out of granite, Mount Rushmore sits at 5,725 feet above sea level. Remarkably, each president’s face is 60 feet high, with each nose measuring about 20 feet long! Nearly 3 million visitors flock to the Black Hills to see this amazing monument every summer.
The Grand View Terrace is one of the best places from which to see Mount Rushmore, and is at the end of the Avenue of Flags, with flags from all 50 states.
The memorial park covers over 1,200 acres, with many hiking trails. The Presidential Trail is a 0.6-mile walking trail, with 422 stairs, that offers up-close and different views at each face.
